Sievers Named Remsen “Citizen Of The Year”

(Remsen) — Last evening, (Monday) the Remsen Chamber of Commerce held its annual banquet and awards program. The Remsen Chamber awarded Dick Sievers as its “Citizen of the Year.” Sievers has been active within the Remsen community,
and is approaching 40 years as the director of the Mid-Sioux Opportunity agency based in Remsen.

Sievers reflects on his time living in Remsen.

A good crowd attended the annual Remsen Chamber of Commerce Banquet and Awards Ceremony held at the Golden Pheasant restaurant.

The Remsen “Citizen of the Year” talks about the agency he oversees, and how it has grown through the years.

Taking home the award for the “Up and Coming Business” was Jeri A. Photography owned by Jeri A. Hofland. Hofland grew up in the Marcus community, and then came to Remsen when she was 17. She loved the atmosphere and knew she wanted to stay in the Remsen community. After doing some photos on site and in homes for a few years, she knew it was time to grow. Jeri moved into her studio located on Highway 3 in May of 2018. Jeri loves photography, and says she feels lucky to get to do what she loves, all while helping people preserve those special memories in their lives.
This year’s recipient of the “Business of the Year” was awarded to Beer City owned and operated by Doug Wurth. Wurth has converted what was only a bar into a restaurant that serves pizza and chicken and other grill food. Wurth says “Beer City” has been in business since 1973, but he had acquired
ownership in 1996.

Wurth feels appreciated to be recognized as Remsen’s “Business of the Year.”

Wurth is surrounded by family, friends, and employees of “Beer City.”
