Remsen St. Mary’s Baseball Wins Second-Straight Spalding Catholic Tournament

The Remsen St. Mary’s baseball team won their second consecutive Spalding Catholic Tournament with an 8-2 win over Don Bosco in a weather-shortened title game on Saturday.

The championship continues a run of 13 consecutive wins dating back to the beginning of the month. Remsen St. Mary’s has been stellar on the mound in this stretch with nine of the 13 games allowing one or fewer runs and a total of seven shutouts. Head Coach Dean Harpenau says the great pitching continued on Saturday with Collin Homan pitching five strong innings to win the game.

The Hawk bats have been hot in this stretch averaging an even 10 runs per game over 13 wins in a row. The Hawks won on Friday in the tournament over Akron-Westfield on a walk-off bunt. They then dominated the Dons with the long ball with Jaxon Bunkers and Hunter Pick each leaving the yard with homeruns. Coach Harpenau says his team knows the importance of being versatile handling the bat.

The Hawks will, once again, be one of the favorites heading into tournament play in a couple of weeks. Coach Harpenau says the Hawks will need to continue to work on the little things to be successful.

Remsen St. Mary’s is next in action at Unity Christian on Monday.
