MMCRU Boys Track and Field continues great season with War Eagle Conference Tournament win on home course

It has been a special season for the MMCRU boys track and field team. They continued their perfect season on Monday winning the War Eagle Conference meet on their home track with 151 team points.

Last season, the Royals fell 10 points shy of Gehlen Catholic at the conference meet in Paullina. MMCRU head coach Colin Youde says that left a bad feeling in his kids, and they were determined since the start of the season to right that wrong.

The Royals are heavily influenced by a strong senior roster that show leadership in just about every event. Coach Youde says that leadership comes from guys simply doing their job and not trying to do too much.

Earlier in the season, the Royals were good for some long-distance wins and some field wins to get them over the edge. As the season goes along, Coach Youde has been pleased with how his sprinters have started to make a name for themselves too.

The Royals still have a couple more meets to run before state qualifiers next week. Coach Youde says the guys will compete hard but will also try to recover so they are ready to send a load of guys to state.

The Royals are at West Sioux on Thursday, May 2 and finish the regular season with another home meet hosting the Jack Foresman Relays.
