Bulldog Baseball gets shutout twice in losses to Bishop Heelan

The Le Mars baseball team had a pair of rough games against ninth-ranked Bishop Heelan on Thursday night. The Bulldogs lost game one 10-0 in five innings and dropped the second game 5-0.

In two total games at Bishop Mueller, the Bulldog bats could only muster a total of four hits on their way to a pair of shutout losses. Heelan pitchers had the Bulldogs off balance all night, and head coach Trent Eckstaine says the guys have to show some versatility at the plate in the future.

The struggles at the plate compounded with a rough go of things on the mound. The Bulldog staff gave up a total of 18 walks to the ninth-ranked team in the state giving them plenty of opportunities to put runs on the board. Coach Eckstaine says sometimes the guys get in their own head when they are pitching.

Le Mars had a tough time getting baserunners on and, once they got baserunners, had an even tougher time doing anything to follow up the baserunner. Coach Eckstaine says the guys are well-practiced in situational hitting, but something ends up getting lost in transition heading into the games sometimes.

The Bulldogs dropped to 7-8 overall and 7-7 in the MRAC with the loss. They will have the weekend off before squaring off with Sioux City North for the first time this season on Tuesday, June 11.
