Le Mars Softball sweeps home tournament, runs win streak to six games

The Le Mars Community softball team ran their win streak to six games with a sweep of their home tournament on Friday. The Bulldogs beat Hinton 3-0 to start the day and finished by beating Western Christian 8-3.

The theme of the day has been the same theme throughout the winning streak, and that is Le Mars getting outstanding pitching. In the win over Hinton, Brenna Leraas allowed just one hit while striking out five. In the win over Western Christian, Kylie Hofmann had a rough seventh inning allowing three runs, but she shut down the Wolfpack for just two hits in the first six innings. Head coach Brooke Berkenpas says both girls have a drive and competitive fire that makes them strong pitchers.

At the plate, everyone was getting some quality at-bats, but there was no one that was truer for than Charli Grosenheider. She homered in the first inning against Hinton for her sixth of the season. Then, against Western Christian, she went 4-4 with a double and drove in another three runs. Coach Berkenpas says the pop in Grosenheider’s bat is pretty scary.

With a six-game winning streak, Le Mars has played themselves right back into the top of the Missouri River Activities Conference now just a game and a half out of first place. With matchups against No. 10 Sioux City North and Sioux City West, Coach Berkenpas knows the Bulldogs will have to bring their A-games to continue the streak.

The Bulldogs are now 10-7 overall and will be at Sioux City North on Tuesday, June 11 and home against Sioux City West on Thursday, June 13.
