Le Mars Football seeks bounce-back performance following week one overtime loss

The Le Mars Community football team did not get off to the start they wanted dropping their week one matchup with Sergeant Bluff-Luton by a score of 21-15 in overtime.

The Bulldogs fell behind 15-0 in the first half and were unable to take advantage of their two scoring opportunities in the form of field goals. The bright side was that Le Mars was able to find a way to comeback down 15 points midway through the fourth quarter to tie the game and force overtime. Le Mars head coach Ken Vigdal says the guys did what they needed to do to put themselves in a good spot in the second half.

The Bulldogs were able to move the ball well through the air against the Warriors. Jami Sitzmann got his first start at quarterback and threw for 203 yards while completing nearly 75% of his passes. Coach Vigdal says he was impressed by Sitzmann’s decision making in his first start.

While Sergeant Bluff-Luton ran the ball for about 300 yards, the Bulldog defense did a good job of keeping them out of the end zone in the second half. Coach Vigdal says having the guys positioned correctly with adjustments in the second half set them up for success on defense.

The Bulldogs have a quick turnaround ahead of their week two matchup with Sioux City North. Le Mars’ week two is now a day shorter with the game being played on a Thursday night. Coach Vigdal says both teams are in the same boat, and it just takes a quick tweak of the regular schedule to get ready.

Kickoff is at 7:00 PM tonight. KLEM will have coverage of the game starting at 6:30.
