The Le Mars Community cross country teams ran at their home Gary Meyer Invitational on Tuesday in Brunsville.
The meet was Le Mars’ second competition of the season, and they have been two tough meets. Head coach Kyle Borchers says the teams are about where they are expected to be at this point in the season.
The Bulldog girls had a strong finish placing eighth overall as a team. Karis Hulinsky led the Bulldog scorers with a 29th-place finish in a time of 23:28.64. Coach Borchers says her progression has continued to get better and better.
The boys placed 12th in the field getting a great lead by Le Mars’ top runner Aaron Lee. Lee ran a 19:06.33 to finish 27th in a loaded field. Coach Borchers says the team is relying on his leadership this season.
Both meets Le Mars has competed in have featured some outstanding cross country runners. That can lead to placements that can be discouraging for an athlete. Coach Borchers is hoping the runners look at their times rather than the placements to see that there is improvement happening.
Running is the only way to continue to improve times especially in long-distance running. Coach Borchers says continuing to get reps and times in will pay off in the long run.
Le Mars is next scheduled to run in Holstein at a meet hosted by Ridge View.
