The Hinton Blackhawks bounced back from a tough start to district play with a 45-21 win over Lawton-Bronson on homecoming last week.
After dropping their first district game of the year to Ridge View by a score of 15-0 the week prior, it was imperative that Hinton got back in the win column. Not only did they do that, but head coach Kadrian Hardersen says they were able to keep doing what has worked and not make drastic changes as well.
The running attack Hinton is so well known for produced two 100-yard rushers against Lawton-Bronson. Gabe Anderson was one of those, and Cole Friessen was the other. Friessen rushed for 104 yards and two scores to lead the Blackhawk offense. Coach Hardersen says that was a big game for a player that has done everything asked of him this season.
The Blackhawks led the game 28-0 in the first half but just could not fire the killing blow that put the Eagles away for good. Lawton-Bronson scored twice before the half to make things a little more interesting heading into the locker room. Coach Hardersen says he was happy that his guys did not crumble and came out in the second half stronger and ready to punch back.
Hinton’s defense did a great job of generating pressure all throughout the night. The Blackhawks recorded three sacks on the defensive side, and that handcuffed the Eagle passing attack. Coach Hardersen says it was multiple guys that had an impact in the pressure.
Hinton improved to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the district with the win. The No. 9 team in the state returns home this week to take on MVAOCOU. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 PM on Friday night in Hinton.
