Le Mars Volleyball battles but falls in tough match with No. 2 Bishop Heelan

The Le Mars volleyball team dropped a tough matchup with the second-ranked Bishop Heelan Crusaders on Tuesday night in three sets.

The score of the match ended up on the wrong side, but the Bulldogs were on the right side of the first set for a large portion of it. Le Mars led the first by as much as six points and had a 21-19 lead late in the set. Le Mars head coach Jess Wolles says her team was playing with plenty of energy to start the night.

The Bulldogs were getting consistent offensive attacks to go their way with many girls contributing. Coach Wolles says that consistency came from a very aggressive front row.

Bishop Heelan ended up taking the first set after scoring six of the last seven points to close out the set. The Crusaders won the next two sets by identical scores of 25-17 to sweep away Le Mars. The Bulldogs did make Heelan earn every one of their set wins. Coach Wolles says they did that by putting up a great block that forced the Heelan hitters to adjust.

The Bulldogs end the MRAC regular season with a record of 2-5 and are 11-18 overall. One more playing date is left on the regular season schedule with Le Mars taking on the field at the Bishop Heelan Classic on Saturday. Coach Wolles says this will be a great tune up for postseason play with some tough opponents on tap.

Bishop Heelan improved to 7-0 in the MRAC and won their first conference title since 2016.
