MMCRU takes lead late to win one-run baseball game over Hinton

The Hinton and MMCRU baseball teams did not disappoint with their matchup on Monday night in Remsen going the way of the Royals by the score of 3-2.

Hinton jumped out to the early lead after initially recording two outs quickly. Casen Boeve drove in both runs that reached with two outs to give the Blackhawks the early spark. Hinton head coach Cale Kramer says the guys quickly adjusted their approach after the rough start.

On MMCRU’s side, the Royals were disappointed that their 1-2-3 inning fell apart as quickly as it did. MMCRU head coach Cam Kuchel says the guys were not worried though because they had a strong arm still going on the mound.

After the two-run outburst in the first inning from Hinton, neither team found the plate until the fourth inning. MMCRU put a pair of baserunners on, and a balk scored one of them from third base. Coach Kuchel says that inning gave the team plenty of confidence.

While this was happening, Hinton was squandering opportunities to score runs leaving a total of 13 baserunners on when the game was over. Coach Kramer says overall decision-making was to blame for the team’s inability to score runs.

In the sixth inning, the game shifted toward MMCRU for good. The Royals got a one-out triple from Lucas Braun and had a baserunner reach on a dropped third strike. That set the stage for Brandon Dreckman who drove in both runners with a two-out triple to give MMCRU the lead for the rest of the game. Coach Kuchel says he is proud of the work Dreckman has put in through all facets of the game.

Hinton drops to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the War Eagle Conference after their first league loss. Coach Kramer says the guys will have a chance to right the ship immediately following the game, and he hopes they take advantage of that.

MMCRU improved to 7-1 on the season and 3-1 in the War Eagle Conference with the win. By this time next week, the baseball season will be halfway through and district pairings will be getting put together. Coach Kuchel says this week is big for the team to prove that they are a team to be reckoned with in this tough corner of the state.

MMCRU returns to action on Wednesday at George-Little Rock. Hinton is back to work tonight against Lawton-Bronson in Hinton.
