Care Package Drive
A care package drive is underway for soldiers from the 113th Calvary Iowa Army National Guard who were deployed earlier this year in May.
Mariah Heide, Soldier & Family Readiness Group Leader for C-Troop says there are a number of drop off locations in the area including  the Le Mars American Legion. The group is looking for non-perishable food items, toiletries, and other items for the packages. Deadline to drop off the supplies is Thursday, September 25th.
She says they’ve designated September 27th and 28th as “Warrior Weekend.”  That Saturday will be a packing day, and Sunday will be the 2nd annual pancake breakfast, this year being held at the Le Mars Armory. They will be serving pancakes, sausage, hashbrowns, and drinks for a free will donation.
After the supplies are packaged and addressed, Heide says they will be sent to the soldiers in October.
Along with the supplies, many of the packages will include cards and colored pictures from school age children.
Heide expressed her thanks to the community for their continued support.

Gehlen Homecoming Week

Gehlen Catholic School is celebrating Homecoming this week. A full schedule of events and activities is set for students, alumni, and community members alike.

This year’s theme is “Traveling the World”, chosen by the student council. Gehlen Catholic School Development Director Amy Jungers explained the theme.

There are plenty of days during the week that students can dress up for, including a “Travel Day” at the airport on Monday, a “Beach Day” on Tuesday, and a “Tacky Tourist Day” on Wednesday.

While the Homecoming parade and football game on Friday are the main events, Jungers says there’s more to the week than just those two.

Community members can show their support at events during the week, including High-Five Friday at 8 a.m., where you can give high-fives to students entering the building the Friday of Homecoming.

Homecoming week concludes with coronation at 12 p.m., the parade at 1:45 p.m. in downtown Le Mars, and the football game against Sioux Central at 7 p.m..
