Wreaths Across America honors those who served in Le Mars

Next weekend, community members will gather at Veterans Memorial Park in Le Mars to lay wreaths and to honor those who served. The event will be part of Wreaths Across America, a nationwide event honoring veterans during the holiday season, coordinator Wayne Schipper told KLEM.

Over two million volunteers in over 5,200 locations nationwide participate in the event. Schipper says the goal of the event is to both provide education to the public and to show appreciation to those who served, both living and deceased.

Schipper says he hopes the public will appreciate the role veterans and active duty personnel play in the community.

The Wreaths Across America ceremony in Le Mars will take place next Saturday at 11am, with a program preceding the wreath-laying. The ceremony was scheduled to take place today, but has been postponed to next weekend due to inclement weather.

Senator Ernst talks about failed vote on health care

Iowa’s two Republican Senators voted for the health care bill Thursday they say will lower health care costs, but the bill was blocked by Democrats. Democrats want to extend the Affordable Care Act, but Iowa Senator Joni Ernst says that would be too expensive.

Ernst says there is no transparency for insurance companies getting subsidies under Obamacare.

Ernst says the Republican plan makes things more transparent and the insurance market more competitive.

Ernst says there is talk of another government shutdown in January if an Obamacare extension fails to pass. She says that won’t be Republicans’ fault, and we found out with the recent shut down it’s costly.

Iowa’s other Senator, Chuck Grassley also voted for the plan, saying it would fix a broken health care system.
