Sioux City Art Center to unveil restored Grant Wood mural
The Sioux City Art Center will soon have the newly restored Grant Wood Corn Room Mural returned from Minnesota. Art Center director Todd Behrens says a spring fundraiser will give attendees their first look at the iconic work.
The Corn Mural had been on display in the dining room of the old hotel and consists of several large panels painted by wood. Art Center curator Christopher Atkins says the restoration has been a two stage process.
At one point, part of the mural was wallpapered over. Behrens says the celebration of the mural’s return will have a rural theme and activities, beginning with a social hour, with dinner and a program, along with a silent and live auction.
The event takes place in the atrium of the Art Center on Friday, March 20th, from 6-10 pm. Tickets are available through the Art Center and contributions will be matched by the Gilchrist Foundation, with that total also matched by a generous benefactor.
