Le Mars Fall Clean-Up starts today
The city of Le Mars’ Fall Clean-Up starts today and will run through September 18th. The clean-up is for Le Mars residents only. Commercial and industrial dumping is not allowed.
The city is declaring an amnesty from the landfill disposal cost, so up to 1,000 pounds per household of certain items can be delivered to the Plymouth County Landfill at no cost. Eligible items include furniture, wooden items, and metal items. Couches, chairs, mattresses, scrap lumber, bikes, mowers, bed frames, and similar items can be brought to the landfill for free. The city will not be picking up curbside items.
Items not included in the amnesty include normal household garbage, TV’s, hazardous waste, appliances, tires, and recyclable goods. A full list of items not included in the amnesty is available on the city’s website.
The landfill will be open today from 8 a.m. until noon, and from September 14th-18th from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Book signing
The Plymouth County Historical Museum will host author Jeff Harstad for a special program and book signing event at 2 p.m. today in the 4th floor Study Hall. Harstad will discuss his book, Mirage in the Sand, and will be available to sign copies for attendees following his talk, with copies available for purchase at the event.
Harstad is a U.S. Army combat veteran, former law enforcement officer, and author from Sioux City, Iowa. According to the Museum, he enlisted the day after 9/11 and served as an infantryman with the 3rd Infantry Division during the early years of the Global War on Terror, eventually rising to the rank of sergeant. Told through memory, letters, and reflection, Mirage in the Sand explores what it meant to grow up inside a war that few understood, and many would never see. The book is described as “not a tale of distant legends or polished narratives, but of real soldiers navigating heroism, dysfunction, loyalty, loss, and the quiet moments in between.”

Archie’s tops Best Iowa Steakhouse list
TravelMag.com has ranked the top steakhouses in Iowa and a legendary Le Mars restaurant topped the list. Archie’s Waeside received the honor in a September blog. The article says, “beef lovers have been making the trip to this Le Mars landmark since 1949, and one bite tells you why.”
It states family tradition runs deep at Archie’s, passed down through generations who never cut corners on quality and continues by saying it remains a shining example of what a true steakhouse should be.
1015 Steak Company in Sibley also made the top ten list.
