Agriculture Committee hosting Elementary Agriculture Tours
The Le Mars Chamber’s Agriculture Committee will be hosting their annual Elementary Agriculture Tours later this month. The tours allow elementary school students to visit area farms and learn more about agriculture, day-to-day work on a farm, and how our food is made and produced.
Jill Oltmanns, a Le Mars Chamber Agriculture Committee member, spoke on the background of the tours.
Oltmanns spoke on the recurring success of the tours, which includes fun for everyone.
The tours will start on Tuesday, September 15th.

Clay County Fair opens this weekend
The Clay County Fair in Spencer opens this Saturday, September 12th. The nine-day fair runs through Sunday, September 20th.
Fairgoers can take advantage of special gate admission promotions. Veterans and active military receive FREE admission with valid identification on Veterans Appreciation Day, Monday, September 14th. Guests, ages 65 and older, can attend for $9 on Senior Day, Tuesday, September 15. On First Responders Day, Wednesday, September 16, all first responders receive FREE admission with valid identification.
Among this year’s new offerings are six finalists competing for the coveted title of “The World’s Greatest County Fair Food” in the tenth annual contest. The delicious showdown will take place Sunday, September 13, at 11:00 a.m. on the Farmers Savings Bank Stage inside the Creative Living Center. Local celebrity judges will sample each creation before crowning one vendor the ultimate champion.
The Clay County Fair attracts more than 300,000 guests each September for nine days of world-class entertainment, competition, food, fun, and the largest farm machinery show at any fair in the United States.

Grant writing workshop
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is hosting a grant writing workshop in Cherokee tomorrow night, Thursday, September 10th, at 209 Centennial Drive. The three-hour session starting at 5:30 p.m. is “designed for individuals and teams who are new to grant writing or want to strengthen their skills.” Lindsay Henderson will lead the workshop.
