New England 30, Baltimore 23

FOXBOROUGH, Mass.  – Tom Brady passed for 406 yards and three touchdowns in the New England Patriots’ fourth straight win, 30-23 over the Baltimore Ravens. The Pats saw a 23-3 lead shrink to 23-20 before Chris Hogan scored on a 79-yard reception with 6:18 left. The Patriots improved to an AFC-best 11-2 and dropped the 7-6 Ravens one game behind Pittsburgh in the AFC North.

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Rams have fired head coach Jeff Fisher and replaced him with special teams coordinator John Fassel on an interim basis. Fisher was 31-45-1 after being hired by the Rams in 2012 and was unable to lead the team to the postseason. Sunday’s 42-14 rout by the Falcons gave him 165 regular-season losses as an NFL coach, tying Dan Reeves for the most in league history.

TUESDAY RESULTS – December 13

(high school basketball)

CHEROKEE — No. 4 (3A) Cherokee used a balanced scoring attack and an attacking pressure defense to turn back Le Mars 77-62 Tuesday night in Lakes Conference girls basketball at Cherokee.  McKenna Carver led the way for the unbeaten Braves with 20 points while Paityn Hagberg dropped in 18 and Payton Slaughter 17.  Jen Schneider had 15 to pace Le Mars with Madison Dreckman adding 12, Sidney Baumgartner 11 and Jaelynn Dreckman 10.  Le Mars falls to 4-and-2 for the season and 1-and-2 in the Lakes Conference.  Cherokee led by 11 at halftime and just steadily pulled away over the final two quarters, leading by as many as 23 in the final quarter as they improve to 4-and-0.

The Le Mars boys bounced back from a disappointing Saturday night loss to Sergeant Bluff-Luton, rolling to a 66-36 win over Cherokee Tuesday to improve to 3-and-2 for the season and 2-and-1 in Lakes Conference play.  A 21-0 run during an eight minute stretch in the first half put the Dogs in charge by halftime, leading by 27 at the break.  Le Mars built the lead to 33 with four minutes to play in the game.  The Bulldogs shot a blistering 61% for the game.  Jake Thompson had a career-best 20 points to lead the Bulldogs with Trent Hilbrands adding 14 and Will Pottebaum 10.  Ben Ligenfelter had 11 for Cherokee, who slides to 2-and-2 for the season and 1-and-2 in Lakes Conference play.

LE MARS —The Gehlen Catholic girls turned to a pair of freshman to pick up their first win of the season Tuesday night as Sydney Livermore and Addison Weber combined for 22 points to lead the Lady Jays to a 46-28 win over Trinity Christian in War Eagle Conference action at the Jays’ Nest.  Livermore finished with 12 points while Weber added 10.  Senior Kaylee Schmit had 8.  Gehlen led 37-28 after three quarters before outscoring the Tigers 9-0 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.  The Lady Jays improve to 1-and-6 for the season and 1-and-2 in the W-E-C.

The Gehlen boys returned to the win column Tuesday night after losing at Remsen last Friday night as the Jays beat Trinity Christian 76-49 at the Jason Puetz Memorial gym.  Gehlen rolled to a 39-18 lead by halftime and coasted in from there.  Cooper Davis and Cole Wiltgen netted 15 points each and Bryan Nohava dropped in 13.  Gehlen gets back to the .500 mark at 3-and-3 with the victory and improves to 2-and-1 in the War Eagle Conference race.
