The Le Mars girls soccer team got back to .500 in the competitive MRAC with a 4-3 home win over Sioux City East on Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs were worried that they were experiencing déjà vu in this matchup. Zoe Wittkop scored her third goal of the match in the first minute of the second half to put the Dogs up 3-0. The next 20 minutes saw that lead vanish very similarly to the way the Bulldogs lost to Council Bluffs AL a week prior. Head coach Kayla Koopman says the Bulldogs did a better job of playing not to lose down the stretch of the match.
Part of the “playing to win” strategy was to not change much. Coach Koopman says that is what burned them against Abraham Lincoln, and she knew that it could bite them again against East.
This matchup continued the torrid pace that Zoe Wittkop is on. After five goals against Storm Lake on Monday night, Wittkop netted another four goals in the win against East. Now with 21 goals on the season, Coach Koopman says the state’s sixth-best goal scorer continues to prove that she is a fighter.
The win continues a now three-match winning streak for the Bulldogs. To keep it going, Coach Koopman says keeping the energy and focus up in practice should lead to good results.
The Bulldogs step out of MRAC action to take on West Sioux on Friday night in Hawarden. They are back at home on Tuesday, April 30 to take on Sioux City West.
