Remsen St. Mary’s Boys Golf Squeaks Out One-Stroke Win Over Gehlen Catholic

The Remsen St. Mary’s boys golf picked up a much-needed win in taking down Gehlen Catholic at home on Tuesday night by one stroke with a score of 165-166.

The Hawks have been the victim of a very tough stretch of the War Eagle Conference schedule. In the span of three matches earlier in the year the Jays lost all three with an average team score of 179. Head coach Tim Osterman says the guys just did what they needed to do to beat the Jays.

Consistency has not always been there for the Hawks this season, and that may have led to the three losses mentioned prior. The Hawks found that consistency with both Collin Homan and Hunter Pick finding some very low scores of 37 and 40 respectively. Coach Osterman says this new-found consistency is coming at the right time.

The Hawks have a busy stretch with two of their next three competition dates featuring an 18-hole tournament. One thing that will help has been the Hawks’ ability to get off the green quickly without too much messing around. He says one area improvement to work on is better tee shots to start a hole.

The Hawks compete in Fort Dodge at the CYO Tournament right away. They will then be at West Sioux on Friday before the War Eagle Conference tournament on Monday, April 29.
