TUESDAY RESULTS – August 24

(cross country)

Le Mars opened the season at the Spencer Invitational.  The Le Mars girls finished fifth with Algona winning the team title.  Hannah Steen was the top finisher for the Lady Bulldogs with an 11th place finish in a time of 17:54.0.  Marissa Marek was 14th in 18:001.6 and Becca Clay was 16th in 18:07.0.  The boys finished sixth in a twelve team field.  Spirit Lake was first and Storm Lake second.  Joe Herzberg was tenth in a time of 18:10 for Le Mars with Kyle Borchers taking eleventh at 18:18.  Le Mars returns to action September 7th when they host the Gary Meyer Memorial meet at Brunsville.

 

 

THURSDAY RESULTS – August 26

Unity Christian beat Gehlen Catholic 3-2  (25-23, 26-24, 19-25, 17-25, 7-15)

FRIDAY RESULTS – August 27

Bishop Heelan Invitational (at Riverside)

Gehlen finished second in the girls race with Alli Sitzmann leading the way with a 19th place finish in a time of 18:09.  Molly Wankum was 20th in 18:10 and Leah Ellensohn took 24th in 18:18.

Gehlen took 4th in the boys race with Matt Mayer finishing 6th in a time of 18:39 and Jacob Benoche taking 9th in 19:08.  Josh Hodgson was 11th in 19:18.

(LE MARS) — Hunter Rohde led a 340-yard rushing attack for Le Mars with 144 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs to an opening night 33-10 victory over Sioux City North Friday night at Jim Lorenzen Stadium.  Judd Herzberg added 103 yards and a touchdown for Le Mars.  The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 19-0 lead in the first quarter enroute to a 26-3 halftime advantage.  The Bulldogs close out non-district play next week at Sioux Center.

(HARTLEY) — Senior Josh Treybal led a punishing ground attack for Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Friday night with five touchdown runs, leading the state-rated Hawks to a 42-26 opening night victory over Gehlen Catholic in a non-district matchup at Hartley.  Treybal scored three of his touchdowns in the fourth quarter as H-M-S pulled away from a 20-all tie after three quarters.  Taylor Wurth threw four touchdown passes for the Jays, two to brother Zach Wurth and one each to Alec Mousel and Michael Whitehead.  The Jays return to action next Friday night in their home opener against Hinton.
