FRIDAY RESULTS – September 6

(AKRON) — Chance Hoffman hauled in a 4-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-goal with 4:18 to play to snap a 12-12 tie and then added a two-point conversion pass catch to lift number-seven Akron-Westfield to a 20-12 victory over Gehlen Catholic Friday night in Akron. Hoffman also caught a 17-yard TD-pass from Sam Mace in the first quarter for the Westerners first score of the night. Lucas Hunt tied the game at 6-all with an eight-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, giving Gehlen Cathoilic their first points of the season. Hunt set up the score with his first career interception. Sam Mace scored on a three yard run in the third quarter to put A-W back in front 12-6. Blake Wiltgen’s six yard run tied the score at 12-all with 6:41 to play in the game. The Westerners executed the game-winning 60 yard drive in eight plays. Akron-Westfield starts district play next Friday at Woodbury Central with a 2-and-0 record while Gehlen begins district play at home against South O’Brien. The Jays are 0-and-2.
(LE MARS) — M-O-C/Floyd Valley rallied from a two touchdown deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime and then stunned Le Mars 33-32 to spoil the Bulldogs home opener. The Dutch took advantage of two turnovers to erase a 26-12 deficit in the fourth quarter, tying the game with eights minutes to play in regulation on a 65 yard return of a Bulldog fumble by Ethan Achterhoff. M-O-C/Floyd Valley scored the first touchdown of overtime on a four yard run by Stefan Kinsinger and Kinsinger kicked the extra point. Levi TeBrink scored a touchdown for the Bulldogs but their two-point pass attempt failed and the Dutch held on for the one point victory. Le Mars dominated the statistics, rolling up 562 yards on 105 plays while the Dutch ran 57 plays and finished with 335 yards. The Bulldogs committed six turnovers and there were 20 penalties called in the game, 12 on M-O-C/Floyd Valley. Tyler Borchers had 11 pass catches for 141 yards and one touchdown. Levi TeBrink ran for one score and hauled in a TD-pass from Chris Hatting on a trick play. TeBrink completed a school-record 21 passes on 41 attempts for 250 yards and two touchdowns. He added another 122 yards rushing, giving him 372 yards of total offense. Beau Ohm carried the ball 30 times for 117 yards as the Bulldogs amassed 307 rushing yards. Le Mars, now 0-and-2, begins district play next Friday at Sergeant Bluff-Luton. The game will be carried on KLEM starting at 7:15 with the Gabe Tardive pregame show.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Jake Rudock and Mark Weisman each ran for a pair of touchdowns and Iowa beat Missouri State 28-14 on Saturday, snapping a seven-game losing streak dating back to 2012.
Weisman had 180 yards rushing for the Hawkeyes (1-1), who prevailed despite a somewhat shaky performance against an FCS opponent.
Weisman scored on runs of 10 and 3 yards to help the Hawkeyes take a 21-0 lead late in the third quarter. Missouri State answered with touchdowns on back-to-back plays from scrimmage early in the fourth quarter, pulling within 21-14 with 14:15 to go.
Rudock’s 2-yard TD run put Iowa back ahead 28-14, and Tanner Miller sealed it with an interception in the end zone with 6:50 left in Iowa City.
