PITTSBURGH – Ben Roethlisberger was 23 of 33 for 265 yards, two TDs and no interceptions as the Pittsburgh Steelers rallied to beat Houston 30-23 and improve to 4-3. Roethlisberger threw his two TD’s while the Steelers were taking advantage of two Texans turnovers to score 21 points over the final 87 seconds of the first half. Receiver Antonio Brown threw for a touchdown during the scoring flurry and had nine catches for 90 yards.

San Francisco 7, Kansas City 1  (San Francisco leads best-of-seven series, 1-0)

KANSAS CITY – The Giants have taken Game 1 of the World Series as Madison Bumgarner went seven innings and Hunter Pence hit a two-run homer in San Francisco’s 7-1 rout of the Royals in Kansas City. Bumgarner had a two-hit shutout and a 7-0 lead until Salvador Perez homered with two out in the seventh. Pablo Sandoval drove in the Giants’ first and last runs with a double and a single.

KANSAS CITY – Royals ace James Shields had a rough outing in Game 1 of the World Series, allowing five runs and seven hits in three-plus innings. His performance was in stark contrast to his previous World Series start, when he tossed shutout ball over 5 2/3 innings for Tampa Bay to beat the Phillies in Game 2 of the 2008 Fall Classic. Shields is 3-5 with a 5.74 ERA over 53 1/3 innings over 10 career postseason starts.

KANSAS CITY – The World Series is tied at a game apiece after the Kansas City Royals erupted for five runs in the sixth inning of a 7-2 win over the San Francisco Giants. Billy Butler had a pair of RBI singles, including a hit that broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth. Salvador Perez lined a two-run double that inning and scored on Omar Infante’s (ihn-FAHN’-tayz) two-run homer two pitches later.

FRIDAY RESULTS – October 24

(high school football)

SIOUX CITY — Number-two Bishop Heelan cashed on three interceptions Friday night as the Crusaders won their 8th straight, 34-20, over the Le Mars Bulldogs in the regular season finale for both schools.  Two interceptions before halftime led to shortened fields and a pair of short TD-runs by Tony Tobin.  Special teams led to a third score before halftime for Heelan.  Will Karrer punted the ball to the Bulldog four yard line early in the second quarter and forced Le Mars to punt from deep in their own territory after a three-and-out.  Heelan struck on a 51 yard pass play from Nick McCann-to-Odessa Clark on their first play after the exchange.  A two yard run by Tobin with six seconds to play in the first half gave the Crusaders a 20-0 lead at halftime.  After a scoreless third quarter, the two teams combined for 34 fourth quarter points.  Tobin’s third touchdown of the game, a 17-yard gallop, gave Heelan a 27-0 advantage with 8:03 left in the game.  Collin Nemmers’ 56 yard kick-off return set up a 34 yard run by Beau Ohm for the Bulldogs first touchdown.  Ohm also added a two-point conversion run to make it 27-8.  A 15-yard penalty against Le Mars on the onside kick set Heelan up for their final score of the night, a 21 yard pass from McCann to Tucker Spears for a 34-8 advantage.  Koster Buss hit Tyler Borchers with a 19 yard scoring pass with 3:12 to play and after recovering the onside kick, Beau Ohm added a four yard touchdown run with 2:02 to play.  Ohm rushed for 98 yards on 22 carries to become the first 1000 yard rusher for Le Mars in 20 years.  He finished with 1072 yards.  The loss will keep Le Mars out of the playoffs as they finish at 3-and-6 for the season and 2-and-4 in district play.

LE MARS — Anteres Ashley ran for 186 yards and three touchdowns to lead Lawton-Bronson to a 25-14 win over Gehlen Catholic Friday night at Jim Lorenzen Field, ending the season for both schools.  Ashley scored on runs of three and one yards and returned a kick-off 80 yards for another score.  Austin Peters also returned an interception 35 yards for a score for the Eagles with nine seconds left in the game.  Brayton Thoms-Wilson ran for both Gehlen touchdowns and rushed for 90 yards on 19 carries.  The Jays turned the ball over six times.  Gehlen Catholic finished the season at 0-and-9 and 0-and-7 in district play.  It was the Jays first winless season since 1979.

Alcides (al-SEE’-dehs) Escobar doubled on the game’s first pitch and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored as the Royals took a two-games-to-one lead in the World Series. Alex Gordon hit an RBI double and scored on Eric Hosmer’s single to put the Royals ahead 3-0 in the sixth.
