FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots beat Buffalo 20-13 last night to join the Carolina Panthers as the NFL’s only 10-0 teams. James White grabbed a 20-yard TD pass from Tom Brady and later put the Pats ahead to stay with a six-yard scoring run with 5:55 left in the third quarter. Brady threw for 277 yards and one interception, with Danny Amendola catching nine passes for 117 yards.

NEW YORK – Kentucky is the new No. 1 team in the weekly Associated Press college basketball poll, moving up a spot after North Carolina was stunningly upset by Northern Iowa on Saturday. The Wildcats got 59 of the 65 first place votes, while second-ranked Maryland claimed the other seven. Michigan State climbed 10 spots to third, just ahead of Iowa State and Kansas. Both Iowa and U-N-I received votes but did not crack the top-25.

REMSEN — Brianna Jensen poured in 23 points and Megan Maass added 19 to lead Remsen-Union to a season-opening 79-31 girls basketball win over Gehlen Catholic Tuesday night in Remsen. The Rockets scored the first ten points of the game and never trailed, building a 35-point halftime lead behind 60% shooting. Erika Strassner and Kayla Alesch dropped in 12 points each for R-U. Jolee Linden, Gehlen’s only returning starter from a year ago, led the Lady Jays with 10 points. Both teams return to action next Tuesday following the Thanksgiving break. Gehlen plays at Hinton while the Rockets travel to Hawarden to battle West Sioux.
LE MARS — Freshman Madison Dreckman had 15 points and Jenn Schneider added 11 to lead Le Mars to a season-opening, 45-31 victory over Hinton Tuesday night at the Bulldogs gym in Le Mars. Kailey Burke had 17 for the Blackhawks. Le Mars returns to action again next Tuesday against Unity Christian.

DETROIT – Matthew Stafford threw for five touchdowns and the Detroit Lions picked up their third straight win by trouncing the Philadelphia Eagles 45-14. Stafford was 27 of 38 for 337 yards and no interceptions as the Lions dropped the Eagles to 4-7. Calvin Johnson had eight receptions for 93 yards and three touchdowns for the 4-7 Lions, who held DeMarco Murray to 30 yards on 14 carries.
ARLINGTON, Texas – The Carolina Panthers are 11-0 after returning two of Tony Romo’s three first-half interceptions for touchdowns in a 33-14 win at Dallas. Romo went to the locker room at the end of the third quarter with another possible left collarbone injury after he was sacked. Kurt Coleman and Luke Kuechly (KEEK’-lee) scored on interceptions, Cam Newton ran for a TD and Graham Gano (gah-NOH’) hit four field goals for the NFC’s only unbeaten team.
GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers lost for the fourth time in five games as Jay Cutler threw for 200 yards and a touchdown in the Chicago Bears’ 17-13 victory at Lambeau Field. The Bears scored their touchdowns in the second quarter on Cutler’s three-yard pass to Zah Miller and Jeremy Langford’s one-yard run. Aaron Rodgers threw for 202 yards, one touchdown and an interception for the 7-4 Packers, who had first-and-goal at the Chicago 8 in the final minute before dropping a half-game behind the NFC North-leading Minnesota Vikings.

LINCOLN, Neb. – Jordan Canzeri broke long touchdown runs on back-to-back series in the third quarter, and No. 3 Iowa completed its first perfect regular season in 93 years with a 28-20 victory over Nebraska on Friday. The Hawkeyes (12-0, 8-0, No. 4 C-F-P) were far from dominant but good enough against the sloppy Cornhuskers (5-7, 3-5) on a raw afternoon. As one of two remaining unbeaten teams, they’ll head to next week’s Big Ten championship game in the middle of the College Football Playoff race. Canzeri ran off left tackle two straight times for two touchdowns, the first one going 29 yards and the second 68 yards for a 28-17 lead. Canzeri finished with 140 yards on 17 carries. Iowa picked off Tommy Armstrong Junior four times, with defensive end Parker Hesse returning one 4 yards for the Hawkeyes’ fourth interception for a touchdown this season.

AMES – Iowa State announced Sunday that 36-year-old Toledo coach Matt Campbell will be Iowa State’s new football coach next season, replacing Paul Rhoads. Rhoads was fired last Sunday but was allowed to coach the Cyclones final game Saturday, a 30-6 loss at West Virginia.
