FRIDAY RESULTS – December 18

(high school basketball)

ESTHERVILLE — The Le Mars girls earned their first Lakes Conference win of the season with a 60-25 drubbing of Estherville/Lincoln Central Friday night to improve to 3-and-4 for the season and 1-and-3 in league play.  The Lady Bulldogs went on a 25-0 run midway through the game to open up a 34-point lead six minutes into the third quarter.  Jen Schneider led the way with a season-high 18 points, two shy of matching her career high and Madison Dreckman added 14.  Morgan White, the Midgets leading scorer, was held to just eight points by an air-tight defensive effort by Jen Schneider.  Le Mars travels to Sioux Falls Saturday morning to meet No. 5 (3A) and unbeaten Sioux Center at 10:30 in the Sanford Classic at the Sioux Falls Pentagon.

The Le Mars boys opened the second half on a 9-0 run to break away from a 27-all halftime tie and the Bulldogs posted a 68-54 Lakes Conference road win over Estherville/Lincoln Central Friday.  It was the 29th straight win for the Bulldogs over the Midgets dating back to the 2000-2001 season.  Trent Hilbrands overcame a sluggish first half to score a game-high 23 points for Le Mars.  Will Pottebaum dropped in 16 points and Gabe Eckstaine had a career-high 10 for the Dogs.  Hilbrands and Pottebaum combind for 23 of the Bulldogs’ 27 third quarter points.  Kyle DeVary had 14 for E-L-C.  Le Mars is now 2-and-2 in Lakes Conference play and improves their season mark to 3-and-2 heading into a home date with No. 5 (3A) Bishop Heelan Saturday night.  The game will be carried on KLEM starting at around 6:15 following a 5 p.m. junior varsity game.  The Le Mars guys and gals break for the holidays after Saturday’s games.

LE MARS — Unity Christian rolled into the Ronald Fox gym in Le Mars Friday and took a War Eagle Conference doubleheader from Gehlen Catholic, winning the girls game 83-22 and the boys game 53-39.  Jaci Alesch and Jolee Linden combined to score 15 of the 22 points for the Lady Jays.  Alesch led the way with ten while Linden added 5.  No scoring stats are available at this time for Unity Christian as the top-rated Lady Knights improve to 7-and-0.  The loss sends the Lady Jays into the holiday break at 1-and-6 for the season and 1-and-3 in W-E-C play.  Luke Neuiwendorp had 13 points to lead Unity Christian in scoring as the Knight improve to 3-and-4 for the season.  Cole Wiltgen had 10 to pace Gehlen Catholic.  The Jays fall to 3-and-4 at the holiday break and are now 2-and-2 in league play.
