*War Eagle Conference meets
A-W gets great play from three freshman in a win Thursday. The fewest putts any Jays had was 18 for nine holes, compared to five Westerners with less than 18 putts for the round. The Westerners beat the Jays soundly 174-192. A-W is now 3-1 and Gehlen falls to 2-1 in War Eagle Conference play.
Gehlen shot near their average for the season and the Westerners just played better. FR Carter Wilken, A-W, fired a +1 37 capped with an eagle 3 on the par 5 second, holing a 50′ putt! FR Raiden Ericson followed with a 40, FR Jackson Marnack a 47, and their 4th score was a 50 by JR London Vassberg. Michael Swancutt had a 53 and Luke Meinen a 56.
Gehlen was led by 3rd medalist Dylan Barthole with a 46, Landon Reuter with a 48, Carson Sitzmann with a 49, and Dawson Barthole with a 50. Elias Sitzmann had a 55 and Gabe Wiltgen a 56.
The Jays won the JV competition with a 208 to A-W’s 221. Gehlen’s Jordan Reuter was medalist with a 49 followed by Aiden Spangler with a 50, A-W’s Carson James had a 52, and Gehlen’s Braden Bollin and A-W’s Cael Morrow tied 4th with 54’s. Gehlen’s Landon Nilles carded a 55 to round out the counting scores. JR Ryan Budden added a 59 and FR Michael Stegge a 67 for the Jays.
Gehlen plays three times next week, Iowa weather permitting, Monday at home vs. South O’Brien, Tuesday at Hinton, and Thursday at West Sioux. Come watch your Jays Monday, only one more home match this season, with only four home dates out of ten matches!
2021 LE MARS BULLDOGS BOYS TENNIS SCHEDULE

*Missouri River Conference meets
Le Mars boys varsity/JV/exhibition tennis played Estherville Lincoln Central at ELC. Varsity won 7-2, JV won 8-1, and exhibition won 5-1. Varsity is now 4-0 on the year, JV is now 3-0 on the year, and exhibition is 3-0 on the year.
Matt Ahlers, Michael Meis, Jaxon Baumgartner, and Ryan Brown all remain undefeated in both singles and doubles on the year.
Ahlers was in complete control his entire singles match, winning 10-0. He excels at the net and is starting to pair that net play with wonderful groundstrokes. He had a fantastic night of tennis.
Meis played a lefty senior at the varsity three spot and came away with a gritty win. They had some great points, and it was nice to see Michael develop more consistency over the course of the match.
Baumgartner continued to battle at the varsity four spot, winning 10-7. He got down 3-0 early, but dug his way out of that hole. Credit to him for displaying determination and perseverance. He’s as mentally tough as they come.
Brown continued his domination at the varsity five spot, winning 10-2. Ryan has been an anchor in the lineup so far this season, always playing the tennis we expect him to play.
Kaden Wingert outdueled another lefty in the number one spot, winning 10-3. He sets the tone every meet with his stellar play at the one spot. He’s got every shot a tennis player could want in his arsenal.
Samuel Bowen lost 10-4 at the varsity six spot. Despite the loss, Sam continues to take steps forward with his tennis game. He had some tight games and long points that just didn’t go his way tonight.
Le Mars will host Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Monday, travel to Spencer on Tuesday, and then travel to Spirit Lake on Thursday.

Le Mars boys varsity tennis played Sioux City West last night at Sioux City West. The Le Mars JV team played at Sioux City North and won 9-0 as well, moving the JV squad to 2-0 on the year.

JAYS WIN AGAIN IN GOLF!
Gehlen Catholic boys golf team is now 2-0 in dual meets this season after defeating Remsen St. Mary’s last night in extreme conditions at the Willow Creek GC – Red Course, par 35, 2910 yards. Temperatures were in the low 50’s and NW winds gusted to 40 mph plus. Gehlen was led by Sr Dylan Barthole who carded an outstanding 39 (+4), with 6 pars in 40 mph gusty NW winds, winning the medal by 6 shots.
RSM’s Carter Schorg recorded a 45 (+9) and there was a tie at 48 between GC’s FR Landen Reuter and RSM’s Xavier Galles, with Galles winning the scorecard playoff on the 2nd hole, #4. The Jays depth showed as they had three players tied for 6th place at 49 – FR Gabe Wiltgen, he had the only par on #9 into the wind, FR Dawson Barthole, and JR Elias Sitzmann. Elias had the only birdie of the day with a deuce on #6. Gehlen posted their 2nd consecutive win 185 to 197 over their rival the Hawks.

2021 LE MARS BULLDOGS BOYS TENNIS:
Le Mars boys varsity tennis hosted Sioux City North Monday night. The wind and temperatures made for a cold meet, there were some great battles against a tough Sioux City North team tonight. This was the first meet in the new conference (Missouri River Activities Conference).
Kaden Wingert ended up on the losing end of both his matches, facing one of the better players in NW Iowa (and the state) in Caleb Weber.
Matt Ahlers got down early 3-0, but he stayed the course, and ended up winning the next eight games to win 8-3.
Michael Meis moves to 2-0 in singles in his high school career with a win, 8-2.
Jaxon Baumgartner played a strong opponent, who had fantastic strokes at varsity four tonight. Jaxon grinded out a great win.
Ryan Brown continued his excellent start to the year winning his match with a score of 8-3.
Samuel Bowen played a steady, consistent player at number six, losing a close match.
Le Mars is now 2-0 on the year, and will head to Sioux City West on Tuesday and then to Estherville Lincoln Central on Thursday.
