Gehlen’s Defense Shines in Dominant Win Over Harris-Lake Park

The Gehlen Catholic girls had a fun night on Tuesday night taking down Harris-Lake Park 68-18.

The Jays enjoyed the win and enjoyed the fact that they snapped a five-game losing streak dating back to the beginning of the season.

That’s Head Coach Brandon Schaecher, the Jays were dominant throughout the game on defense. Gehlen held Harris-Lake Park to just 18 points in the first half and followed that up by pitching a shutout in the second half. Coach Schaecher says that defense was not even the main focus of the team’s practices the last week.

That offensive success was sparked by the three in which Gehlen Catholic went 7-17 from the arch. Lauren Heying finished with 23 points on 4-7 from downtown. Another key to the offensive success, according to Coach Schaecher, was their ability to move the ball.

The Jays are now 2-5 and 1-1 in the War Eagle Conference. Gehlen next plays at home against Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in War Eagle Conference play.
