Akron-Westfield’s Matt Swancutt Qualifies for 2024 State Bowling Meet

Bowling for the West Sioux/Akron-Westfield/MOC-Floyd Valley team, Akron-Westfield student Matt Swancutt qualified for the boys state bowling meet with a seventh-place finish at Tuesday’s state qualifying meet in Le Mars.

Swancutt’s individual tournament started off rough with a 156 score in his opening game. He followed that up with his two best games of the year with a 225 and a 249. Swancutt says he had to fix his release, and that proved to fix his shot.

Swancutt leads the team in total pin count and proved why he is the anchor for the baker games in the team tournament. He says he enjoys getting the opportunity to lead the team by example during competition.

As Swancutt prepares for the state meet, he is not going to overload his expectations ahead of next week. Rather, he says he will go into it the same way he has prepared for other meets to keep the consistency there.

The state individual meet is Monday, February 19 in Waterloo.
