Le Mars Girls Soccer Caps First Week with Upset of Sioux Center

The Le Mars girls soccer team capped off their first week of the season with an upset win over No. 11 Sioux Center by a score of 4-3 on Friday night.

The win came on the heels of a tough 6-1 road loss to Spirit Lake Park/Okoboji the night prior. Head coach Kayla Koopman says the toughness of her team has showed through the first three games.

Defensively, the Bulldogs have played much better than they did earlier in the week. The Bulldogs put Kynlee Schmidt in at goalkeeper to help direct the defensive backs. Coach Koopman says she has done a great job of communicating, and the defense has responded.

Zoe Wittkop had another hat trick and now sits at seven goals through three games this season. That has been great to see, but Coach Koopman is still hoping other girls can have an impact to keep opposing defenses guessing.

The Bulldogs now sit at 2-1 on the season and take on Sioux City North on the road on Tuesday. They are back home on Monday, April 15 for a matchup with Council Bluffs AL.
