Bulldog Boys Soccer Opens Home Schedule with Loss to Sioux City North

The Le Mars Community boys soccer team opened their home schedule on Tuesday night with a loss to Sioux City North by the score of 4-1.

The one goal on the board does not tell the whole story of the number of chances the Bulldogs had on net. It seemed like every part of the goal frame saw a shot hit off it but not go through until a Jovany Kabongo penalty kick late in the first half. Head coach Blake Fehringer says sometimes that is how the game goes, but he needs the guys to keep shooting.

Kabongo now has a team-high five goals on the season, and the Bulldogs know he gets the majority of an opponent’s defensive focus. Coach Fehringer says that means they need to do a better job of finding others to get involved in the offense.

The majority of North’s scoring opportunities came on breakaway one-on-one opportunities which left the Bulldogs in a tough spot. Coach Fehringer says the Bulldogs will be working to sharpen things up on the defensive end.

The Bulldogs are back on the pitch this weekend in Council Bluffs when they take on a pair of opponents at the Lewis Central invite on Saturday. They will take on three-time defending Nebraska state champion Skutt Catholic of Omaha and the host Titans of Lewis Central.
