Akron-Westfield Boys Golf Keeps Unbeaten Start Alive with Win Over Hinton

The Akron-Westfield boys golf team kept their unbeaten streak alive with a seven-stroke, 168-175 victory at Hinton on Monday night.

This matchup was only the second time that the Westerners were within single digits of their opponent when the scores were totaled. Head coach Todd Colt attributes that to the difficulty of Deer Run and how it challenges you as a golfer.

Carter Wilken once again led the Westerners on the individual leaderboard. He shot a 39 on nine holes to lock up his seventh medalist honor of the season. Coach Colt says the results speak to the dedication Wilken shows in bettering his game during the offseason and in season.

Even as an undefeated team, the Westerners know it will take some more strokes off their scores to get back to the state tournament after missing out last year. Coach Colt says that means guys further down the leaderboard need to step up and lower their scores.

The Westerners take on South O’Brien right away at Akron Golf Club.
