Remsen St. Mary’s softball wins crucial ranked conference matchup over Hinton

The No. 11 Remsen St. Mary’s softball team put themselves in a position to win a share of the War Eagle Conference title with a critical win over No. 10 Hinton by the score of 5-3 in Remsen on Friday night.

While the Hawks still have one more conference game to play, the knew a War Eagle Conference championship would not be a reality without a win against the Blackhawks. Head coach Erika Bates says this was a big win for her team.

Remsen St. Mary’s scored four of their five runs in the third inning when they were getting the second time through the order started. Coach Bates says that second time through gave the girls the knowledge they needed to get the offense going.

Hinton was able to get a comeback going in the fifth inning scoring their three runs in that frame. Remsen St. Mary’s did not relinquish the lead and fought back to ultimately come out on top. Coach Bates says her team is resilient and knows how to get out of jams.

For Remsen St. Mary’s to win their share of the War Eagle Conference, the Hawks will have to beat Gehlen Catholic on Monday. Coach Bates says her team will be ready to go for that big rivalry game.

Remsen St. Mary’s will enter that game with a record of 18-4 overall and 9-1 in the War Eagle Conference. The game can be heard on KLEM Radio beginning with pregame coverage at around 7:15 PM.
