Kingsley-Pierson girls basketball relying on new faces for new season

The Kingsley-Pierson girls basketball team is once again on its own after disbanding the sports sharing agreement with River Valley at the end of last season. Because of that, spots are open for many underclassmen to take over as key contributors for the Panthers. Head coach Nicole Goodwin says her girls will have a lot of things to brush up on before the ball tips off.

Not only did the Panthers lose the River Valley students this year, they also lost their top scorer in Sydney Doeschot who transferred to Hinton. That means the Panthers are down 15-20 points a night and need someone to fill those shoes. Coach Goodwin says it will have to be multiple players to fill those shoes throughout the season.

Thankfully, Kingsley-Pierson feels pretty good about their depth. Coach Goodwin says that will allow her defense to remain fresh and allow them the ability to put pressure on opposing offenses.

With all the new bodies on the floor, the Panthers are trying to gradually progress through the marathon of the season. Coach Goodwin says that means the main focus early in the season will be on improving themselves rather than worrying about opponents.

The Panthers start their season with Gehlen Catholic in Le Mars on Monday night. You can listen to the game on KLEM with coverage beginning at 7:15 PM.
