Hinton girls track dominates first-ever Akron-Westfield Relays

The Hinton girls track and field team easily handled business on Thursday taking home the first-ever team title at the Akron-Westfield Relays.

The Blackhawks were utterly dominant with a Hinton athlete or relay team winning 11 of the 19 events that took place. Hinton head coach Robin Mohr says he was happy with how the girls continued to work hard even when it was a little chilly out.

Hinton has been winning a number of the short-distance events all throughout the season, but it appears the middle and long distance events are starting to take shape. Jenna Hoefling took the win in the 800m while Stella Riediger was the top runner in the 3000. Coach Mohr says having depth in those events is key to being a winner in good meets.

Two weeks remain before the state qualifying meets are set to be run in May. Coach Mohr says he kept things light this week, but the work will ramp up with the conference meet coming up as well.

Hinton’s next competition is the War Eagle Conference meet in Hartley on Monday night.
