The Gehlen Catholic boys track and field team finished in second-place at the first-ever Akron-Westfield Relays on Thursday night.
Overall, the Jays saw some decent results on a cooler night for being this late in the season. The Jays finished with five event victories on the night with two coming in relay races. Head coach Jeremy Schindler says he liked the boost the longer distance runners gave his team.
The Jays picked up wins in the 800m and 1600m events while also winning the 4x400m Relay. Coach Schindler says he was happy with the time from the 4×400 to finish the race, but he thought they still could have done better.
The Jays have a deep team making their relay events shine. One of those runners had a great night as Tristan Sitzmann did some heavy lifting in his legs of the 4x400m and 4x800m Relays. Coach Schindler says performances like that are big getting toward the later portion of the season.
Gehlen Catholic continues to gear up for the late portion of the season with the War Eagle Conference meet and the State Qualifying meet in two weeks. Coach Schindler says both meets will test his guys.
The War Eagle Conference meet takes place on Monday night in Hartley.
