Le Mars basketball teams swept by MOC-Floyd Valley

In their second tough non-conference battle of the week, the Le Mars Community girls basketball team fell to MOC-Floyd Valley 75-34.

The Bulldogs knew they were going to face a pressure defense, but that did not make things easier. MOC-Floyd Valley got out to an early lead with some long runs in the first half thanks to some stifling defense that turned to offense quickly. Le Mars head coach Sidney Baumgartner says they just did not have their press break down right.

Le Mars had to play catch up most of the night from there and struggled to do that behind an offense that was unable to get very many looks. When Kynlee Schmidt got looks, they were dropping as she led Le Mars with 15 points. Coach Baumgartner says it was nice to see her get those shots to drop.

The Bulldogs fall to 2-7 on the season and have a quick turnaround with back-to-back games on back-to-back days. Coach Baumgartner says it takes the girls being aware of what they can improve on in situations like this, and they were already doing that after the game.

The Le Mars Community boys basketball team battled No. 7 MOC-Floyd Valley tough, but they fell to the Dutchmen by a final score of 76-58.

The game was tied at the half thanks to Le Mars’ efforts in putting to practice their gameplan. Le Mars head coach Cody Dyhrkopp says he was happy with that, but it was tough to keep it going for the whole game.

Part of the gameplan was to change things up defensively from man to zone at times. Coach Dyhrkopp says the guys did that well, but it required shots to consistently go in. He says that did not happen in the second half.

The Bulldogs drop to 1-7 on the year, and they finish the week with a tough battle against Storm Lake. The Tornadoes have won of the best players in northwest Iowa in Jaidyn Coon who has offers to eight NCAA Division 1 schools. Coach Dyhrkopp says the guys are taught to play the team and not worry about the players they have.
