Sebastian MacGregor bowls first perfect game in Le Mars Community history at state qualifying meet

The Le Mars Community bowling record book was rewritten as part of the boys state qualifying meet on Tuesday. Bulldog senior Sebastian MacGregor bowled a perfect game in the first game of the three-game series for individual qualifiers. It was the first perfect game in Le Mars Community history.

Considering the extensive history of the Le Mars bowling program, it is a bit surprising that no one had ever bowled a perfect game before. MacGregor says he is honored to be the first one to reach that mark.

This was MacGregor’s fourth perfect game of his bowling career with the other three coming in other leagues. He says getting the high school perfect game was something he had wanted to do for a long time.

The game was not without its fair share of scares that threatened the integrity of perfection. Both the seventh frame and the second ball of the 10th frame featured pins that did not want to fall initially. MacGregor says once he actually got the pins to fall, he knew something was lining up for him.

The third ball of the 10th frame did not feature any drama. It was about as perfect ball as he could have thrown to end a perfect game in a perfect setting. MacGregor says he felt relieved after getting it done and knew right away the magnitude of what had happened.

MacGregor still had to bowl two more games after his achievement of perfection. He followed up his 300 with a rough second game bowling a 181 and getting back on the right track with a 274 to finish the series with a score of 755. MacGregor says he was glad he was able to keep the momentum through all three games.

Thankfully, MacGregor will be joined at the state tournament this year by two other bowlers in Taylor Lindner and Conner Heinrich. MacGregor says he is thrilled to get to go down with a couple of teammates.

After missing out on the bracket portion of the individual tournament last year, MacGregor is hungry to do better. He says getting into the bracket is the first goal, and, once he is there, he wants to win the whole thing.

The Class 2A individual tournament takes place on Tuesday, February 25 in Waterloo.
