FRIDAY RESULTS – October 2

(high school football)

LE MARS — Storm Lake scored the first 20 points of the game and never looked back, spoiling the Bulldogs homecoming celebration with a 27-6 victory in Le Mars Friday night in a 3A District 1 matchup.  Ben Raveling ran for a pair of touchdowns for the Tornados to lead a 193-yard ground attack.  Sophomore Elijah Dougherty ran 29 yards for the lone Bulldog touchdown with 1:50 to play in the second quarter to close to within 20-6 at the halftime break.  Dougherty ran for 118 yards to pace a season-best 174 yards on the ground for the Dogs.  After a scoreless third quarter, the Tornados struck again in the final quarter, sending Le Mars to an 0-5 record with an 0-4 district mark.  Le Mars was plagued by five turnovers Friday night.  The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season at Bishop Heelan next Friday in a game that will be featured on KLEM.

MARCUS — Senior Derek Von Arb ran for 102 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead Gehlen Catholic to a 54-7 thumping of MMCRU Friday night to put a damper on the Royals homecoming festivities in Marcus.  Von Arb scored on runs of 3, 1, 62, and 3 yards.  Keaton Bonderson hauled in a 57-yard TD-bomb from Connor Kraft and Dylan Lehmann and Yahir Vanegas ran 11 and 25 yards respectively for touchdowns.  The final score of the night for the Jays came on a 40-yard, pick-6 by Traegan Kramer with 10:11 to play.  Kramer had two of Gehlen’s four interceptions in the game.  MMCRU scored late in the first quarter on a three-yard pass from K.C. Nicks-to- Cade Peppers to trim Gehlen’s 13-0 lead to 13-7.  Gehlen rolled up 371 yards of offense against the Royals defense.  MMCRU had a season-best 154 yards of offense, passing for 122 yards.  The Gehlen improve to 2-3 for the season and 2-1 in district play.  MMCRU falls to 1-5.  Gehlen closes out the regular season next Friday at home against South O’Brien in the Jays homecoming game while MMCRU travels to Akron-Westfield.
