LE MARS — Rylee Schnepf flirted with an opening night no-hitter and Josie Kolbeck had a two-run inside-the-park home run, finishing with three RBI’s, to lead No. 11 (1A) Gehlen Catholic to a 6-1 victory over visiting Woodbury Central Tuesday night.  Schnepf, who finished with ten strikeouts, was a fifth inning walk short of perfection before giving up a one-out single in the 7th inning.  Emily Kellen took over at that point just to get some work in and proceeded to give up a double and two walks to force in a run before getting out of a bases-loaded jam with a pair of strike outs.  Kellen also added a two-run single in the first inning to stake the Lady Jays to a 2-0 start and Kolbeck circled the bases an inning later when Woodbury Central’s left and center fielders collided while chasing Kolbeck’s flyball, giving Gehlen a 4-0 advantage.  Gehlen was limited to just three hits but took advantage of eight walks.

LE MARS — Morgan Marineau’s walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 7th inning earned new coach Keeley Steffen and the Le Mars Lady Bulldogs a 5-4 opening night victory over Sioux City East Tuesday night.  Morgan’s twin sister Payton had a two-run double in the sixth inning to begin a rally from a 4-0 deficit.  Avery Pratt tied it at 4-all later in the inning with a two-run single.
