Le Mars Wins First Football Game Under Ken Vigdal

Le Mars football played their home opener on Friday night at Jim Lorenzen Field and came away with their first win under Head Coach Ken Vigdal. The Bulldogs won their second non-district game of the year 22-8 over Bishop Heelan.

Head Coach Ken Vigdal says that it is nice to get the first win out of the way. He also mentions his pride for his players getting the job done.

Coach Vigdal says that a key to his team’s success was their ability to score early on the Crusaders. Another key was his team’s response to adversity late in the game.

The Bulldog ground attack rushed over Bishop Heelan to the tune of 293 yards and two rushing TDs. Elijah Dougherty picked up the majority of those yards with 150 rushing yards and a rushing TD. Coach Vigdal attributes his success on Friday to his ability to pick up yards after contact.

Coach Vigdal and the Bulldogs now set their sights on an opponent out of Class 5A this Friday when Sioux City East visits Le Mars at Jim Lorenzen Field. Coach Vigdal says that success will come from a good week of practice.

Le Mars and Sioux City East kick off at 7:00 PM on Friday at Jim Lorenzen Field.
