Gehlen Catholic Drops Crucial District Game Against South O’Brien

Gehlen Catholic met up with South O’Brien at home on Friday night and fell to the Wolverines by a 42-24 final score.

Another matchup in Class A District 1 meant that Gehlen Catholic was going up against a team that could run the ball very well. South O’Brien entered the game averaging over 230 yards on the ground per game, and they came out running against the Jays. The first two Wolverine drives ended in touchdowns from Parker Struve. Gehlen Catholic Head Coach Jeremy Schindler says that his coaching staff was trying everything to shut down the run but was not being successful.

Gehlen Catholic started out slowly offensively by putting up only six points in the first half. Coach Schindler says that his offense did not get many early opportunities to get started.

Once the offense got going, the Jays found their favorite playmaker on the outside. Keaten Bonderson finished with 14 catches for 190 yards and three touchdowns. Bonderson leads Class A in receiving touchdowns, receiving yards, and yards per receptions through six games. Coach Schindler attributes that to his impressive ability to get open.

With the loss to South O’Brien, the Jays fell to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the district. The Jays play their final road regular season game tomorrow at MMCRU. Coach Schindler has a lot of praise for this year’s Royals team.

Kickoff between the Jays and Royals is at 7:00 tomorrow night. KLEM Radio will provide live coverage from Marcus on our radio station and our YouTube Channel.
