Westerner Football picks up first win of the season

The Akron-Westfield football team had been having a rough season this year, but they got back on the right track on Friday night with a 29-15 win over Alta-Aurelia.

The Westerners have faced injuries, bad luck, and everything that can go wrong in a season having started the year 0-6. Head coach John Sievert says he was happy for the guys that they could get this one to go their way.

Akron-Westfield’s offense has struggled to finish drives throughout the year. Whether that was staying on the field on third downs or finding the end zone when getting into the red zone, the Westerners have not been getting it done. Coach Sievert says the offense was much better at finishing drives against the Warriors.

Alta-Aurelia’s offense posed some challenges due to the tricky nature of its run schemes. That hurt the Westerners at times in the game, but Coach Sievert says he was very happy with his defense’s ability to play sound football.

The Westerners now sit at 1-6 overall and 1-4 in the district with the loss. Unfortunately, the playoff hopes are gone, but they are still able to finish out the season strong. That opportunity stares them down in the form of South O’Brien. Coach Sievert says his guys can not take this game lightly if they want to have a good end to the season.

Kickoff between the Westerners and Wolverines will be at 7:00 PM on Friday, October 18 in Akron.
