The third-ranked MMCRU football team made a statement with a 41-6 beating of No. 10 Hinton on the road on Friday night.
The Royals and Blackhawks played a much closer game through the first half with the score only getting to 14-0 at the break. MMCRU went on to put up an impressive 27 points in the second half to put the Blackhawks away for good. Head coach Kyle Oswald says his guys were able to use their depth to their advantage to put more points on the board late in the game.
The depth the Royals had to use came in the running game where they used three different running backs in the backfield. While that position was rotating, quarterback Eli Harpenau was able to run for two touchdowns and nearly 100 yards. Coach Oswald says the guys around him made some great plays allowing him to carry the ball for a while.
Hinton’s strong offense was held to just 108 yards of productivity and six points for the night. Coach Oswald says his team did not do anything special, but they executed the plan set before them to shut down a potent offense.
With non-district play out of the way, the Royals start their district schedule during homecoming with a matchup against South O’Brien this week. Coach Oswald says homecoming is great, but the guys also need to focus on their health to rest up so they can be at full strength this week.
MMCRU’s game with South O’Brien kicks off at 7:00 PM in Marcus on Friday night.
