An Accident on Business Hwy 75 Spills Diesel Fuel

(Le Mars) -- Traffic was backed up for a short while Wednesday afternoon on Business Highway 75 as officials were cleaning up after an accident that occurred at about 1:30 p.m. near 18th Street South West.  A Dodge Durango SUV driven by 22 year old Adam Brown of Merrill collided with an older model Ford pickup truck driven by 68 year old Timothy Weidauer of Le Mars, causing damage to both vehicles.  Weidauer and Brown were both northbound and in the inside lane when Weidauer had slowed down indicating he was about to turn.  Brown was distracted and rear-ended the Weidauer vehicle.  The pickup truck was carrying an external fuel tank containing diesel fuel.  The impact made tank fall out of the pickup box and on to the highway.  No word as to how much fuel had spilled on to the highway.  Le Mars Fire Department officials assisted with the cleanup at the scene by placing absorbant on the spilled diesel fuel.  Brown's SUV remained on the highway, but the pickup truck owned by Weidauer, ended in the east ditch near the railroad tracks.  Wiedauer was transported to Floyd Valley Hospital with what is thought to be non-life threatening injuries.  The Le Mars Police Department is investigating that accident.
