(LE MARS) -- Senior Brandon Snyder scored 13 of his game-high 27 points in the fourth quarter as West Lyon held off top-rated Gehlen Catholic's second half rally to upset the Jays 52-46 Monday night in the 1A Sub-State finals at the Le Mars Community gym.  The loss was the first for Gehlen in 25 games.  The Jays started slow, hitting just one of their first eleven shots, to fall behind 11-3 in the first quarter.  The Wildcats opened the second quarter with a 7-0 run to take an 18-5 lead two minutes into the second quarter and West Lyon eventually built their lead to 15 points with 2:24 to play in the half.  The Cats led 26-13 at the break.  Gehlen came to life offensively after halftime though, opening the third quarter on a 16-5 run to close to within two at 31-29 with 1:45 to play in the quarter.  West Lyon led 35-29 entering the final period.  Gehlen again closed to within two at 39-37 with 4:21 to play but Snyder followed a B.J. Van Roekel basket with a three-pointer to extend the lead to seven and the Jays never got closer than three after that.  Seniors Colton Kneip and Blake Wiltgen accounted for 30 of the Jays' 46 points as they closed out their Gehlen careers with 18 and 12 points respectively.  West Lyon takes a 20-and-5 record to Des Moines for their first basketball State tournament trip in the school's history.
