NEW YORK – Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu (ah-BRAY’-oo) is a unanimous winner of the AL rookie honor. The 27-year-old led the major leagues with a .581 slugging percentage and was sixth with a .317 average, tied for fourth with 36 homers and fifth with 107 RBIs. New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom (deh-GRAHM’) has been voted NL Rookie of the Year after going 9-6 with a 2.69 ERA and 114 strikeouts in 140 1/3 innings following his recall in May.

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Eagles are 7-2 after Mark Sanchez threw for two touchdowns and Darren Sproles scored a pair of first-quarter TDs in a 45-21 trouncing of Carolina. Bradley Fletcher returned an interception 34 yards for a TD and Jordan Matthews had 138 yards receiving and two TDs. The Eagles also recorded three interceptions and nine sacks against Cam Newton, who gained most of his 306 passing yard after the Eagles went ahead 45-7.

NEW YORK — Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers easily won the 2014 National League Cy Young award Wednesday after compiling a 21-3 record with a 1.77 ERA and 239 strike outs in 198 1/3 innings. It was the third Cy Young of Kershaw’s career. The American League balloting was alot closer with Cleveland’s Corey Kluber edging out Seattle’s Felix Hernandez 17-13. Kluber went 18-9 and had an ERA of 2.44.

NEW YORK – Clayton Kershaw has become the first pitcher since Bob Gibson in 1968 to win the National League MVP award. Kershaw got 18 of 30 first-place votes and 355 points in balloting by members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America after going 21-3 with a 1.77 ERA and one no-hitter. Miami outfielder Giancarlo Stanton got eight first-place ballots and 298 points, while Pittsburgh outfielder Andrew McCutchen got four first and 271 points.
NEW YORK – Mike Trout is a unanimous winner of the American League’s Most Valuable Player award after consecutive second-place finishes. He hit .287 and set career highs with 36 home runs and 111 RBIs while leading the major leagues with 115 runs and 84 extra-base hits. The 23-year-old Trout is the fifth-youngest MVP in major league history.

MIAMI – Ryan Tannehill threw for 240 yards and the Miami Dolphins improved to 6-4 by downing the Buffalo Bills 22-9. The Bills led 9-2 before Tannehill threw short touchdown passes to Brandon Gibson and Jarvis Landry while the Dolphins were scoring 19 unanswered points in the final 18 minutes. Miami’s defense was stellar, holding Buffalo to 54 rushing yards and limiting Sammy Watkins to three receptions for 32 yards.
