The Akron-Westfield boys posted a season-low score to record home wins over Hinton and Trinity Christian on Thursday night. The Westerners scored a 159 and used that score to beat Hinton’s 183 and Trinity Christian’s 212.
The Westerners had to battle some tough conditions with a rain storm playing havoc on their final couple of holes. Head coach Steven Husk says they competed well through it all and were able to take advantage of their home-course advantage.
The Westerners have gotten contributions up and down their lineup this season with many guys shooting under 40 in a match. Coach Husk says that can allow other golfers to pick guys up who may not shoot their best in a given match.
The Westerners have a tough path ahead of them for the postseason with a very difficult War Eagle Conference meet on tap and a sectional tournament with four teams that have been to the state tournament in recent years. Coach Husk says getting started strong on holes will give his guys a fighting chance in those tough meets coming up.
The Westerners are next in action at George-Little Rock on Monday.
